ang mo = red hair, and while the origins of the name are mostly unknown, it’s either referring to caucasians or the rambutan fruit

so since kio = bridge, it can either be interpreted as caucasian’s bridge or rambutan’s bridge

some people also say that that the kio can also be interpreted as eggplant, meaning the name would be western tomato (since there for some reason, tomatoes are the western version of eggplants), but since there are no reports of tomatoes being grown there, it’s not likely tomato related

Both the original (“red hair bridge”) and the updated name (“bridge of expansiveness and prosperity”) can be transliterated as Ang Mo Kio.

I actually laughed at this (probably the first time in at least a year, at a video.)
